11 Essential Oil Cologne Recipes

11 Essential Oil Cologne Recipes

The fragrance industry has been around for centuries and profits greatly from people’s need to smell their best. Unfortunately, even some of your favorite scents most likely use synthetic ingredients to finish off their signature scents. For some, this creates sensitivity issues and may even aggravate allergies. Because of this, many people have turned to natural alternatives made with essential oils to provide not only a great smell but also to reap the many benefits of oil aromatherapy.

The following essential oil cologne recipes are a great choice for men who want or need, a more natural choice. These blends also smell great when diffused in a room, and they are generally very unisex in their fragrance to make them a good option for just about anyone. Read on to see how you can quickly make up your own colognes with a few easy to find ingredients.

Why Make Your Own Essential Oil Perfumes?

As mentioned above, if you are sensitive to certain scents or synthetics, then you want to know exactly what is included in an ingredient list prior to use. By making your own you can dictate what is being used to ensure you won’t have any adverse reactions.

Making your own perfumes also allows you to take full advantage of the many benefits essential oils have. Both the application to your skin as well as the scent you breathe in can work in many ways to provide help with focus, attention, wakefulness, calming, and even healing.

Are All Homemade Colognes Made With Essential Oils?

Not all homemade colognes are made with essential oils. You can easily purchase synthetic fragrances to use in your own DIY recipes and just because a label says homemade doesn’t mean it is automatically all natural, organic, vegan, or gluten free. What is wonderful about making your own fragrances is that you have full control over the ingredients and can make is ‘as free’ from certain substances as you want.

The following recipes we have included below are all natural and do use all natural essential oils to create fragrance blends. You can, of course, leave out a certain scent or substitute it if you wish.

Some Things You Might Need

Before getting started you might want to have a few things handy, such as a funnel to avoid spilling or wasting your ingredients and a dark glass roller bottle or spray bottle. Essential oils should be stored in dark glass because many are photosensitive and can break down in sunlight. If you do use a clear glass simply store it away from any bright light.

Most of these oils need to be diluted in a carrier oil of your choice. Most popular is fractionated coconut oil as it provides the lightweight feel that many prefer. Plus it does not have any strong scent associated with it that would overwhelm your essential oils.
